Right from the outset, Rider Levett Bucknall placed real importance on flexibility within the workplace. They wanted to create a space that could evolve with time, providing an enhanced working environment for their employees. The Optima Adaptable Meeting Room (AMR) provides the ideal solution for RLB, offering a smart, adaptable way to maximise the potential of their office. Working directly with RLB we got a real understanding of what they wanted to achieve with their new design. We delivered a unique design addition to this global construction and property consultancy, offering both adaptability and functionality within the workplace.
Location110 Bishopsgate, London
Sustainability was a big design requirement for RLB throughout the project and the AMR’s demountable feature means it can be put up, taken down, or relocated quickly and efficiently. This dynamic design feature suited RLB’s brief perfectly. This means they can adapt their AMR to suit the changing needs of the business, whilst offering the added benefit of extending the lifespan of the product. Moreover, the demountable element of the AMR significantly reduces the need for any expensive redesigns in the future.
“When we looked at this project, everything was about how we could reuse it when we move out of this facility. The fact that the AMR enables us to take it apart and reset it in a couple of days anywhere, meant that as our functionality requirements change and adapt over time, the AMR is able to do the same.” Andrew Fettes Brown, Head of Cost Consultancy at Rider Levett Bucnkall
Furthermore, the unique ability to adapt the AMR as the business develops was a key benefit for RLB. Just like many businesses RLB has placed a big focus on finding new ways to foster sustainability across the business. Designed with reusability in mind, the AMR offers the ideal solution to help enhance RLB’s environmental performance. In addition, the reusable aspect of the AMR lends itself perfectly to the circular economy. As a result, RLB is not simply creating an office design for today, instead, they are building a workspace for the future.
Designed to promote a range of working styles, the AMR further met Rider Levett Bucknall’s needs perfectly. Delivering a comfortable and innovative space where employees can work all day, the AMR has blended into their office seamlessly. Furthermore, the AMR’s state-of-the-art ventilation system ensures CO2 levels remain at an optimal level, boosting occupier comfort throughout RLB’s office.
“We are moving to a purpose-based approach, which is you come into the office for a purpose. The Adaptable Meeting Room helps us to achieve that adaptability, but most importantly it is adaptability with functionality, and that is the key point of the AMR for us”.
In addition, the unique modular design of the AMR means additional walls and fins were added. As a result, we were able to build a new and creative work zone inside, as well as creating an inspirational and flexible external area that utilises the outside office space. Furthermore, we applied an armour coat to the solid walls, matching RLB’s office entrance, providing visual connectivity through the fit-out.
Moreover, following the impact of the pandemic, RLB took the opportunity to integrate several hygienic features into their Adaptable Meeting Room. Installed with Fuzone 500 antibacterial lighting, this system purifies the air and surfaces within the AMR using ultraviolet lighting. This air and surface purification eliminates viruses and bacteria, ensuring RLB’s employees are working in a clean and safe environment. We also applied an antimicrobial finish to the frame and handles, enhancing hygiene levels within the AMR. The antimicrobial technology provides lasting and effective protection against harmful bacteria, mould, and viruses by up to 99.99%. As a result, the Adaptable Meeting Room instils a sense of confidence and comfort within the space.
