It’s Women In Construction Week 2025! A time to celebrate the talent, ambition, and fresh perspectives women bring to the industry. At Optima, we’re proud to celebrate our incredible team, especially those who are just starting their journey in construction. A newcomer to the industry is Holly Streeks, who joined Optima in February 2024. In just one year as an Account Manager, Holly has embraced the fast-paced world of construction. She has gained insights across design, project management, cost consulting, architecture, and sustainability. Along the way, she has built strong relationships with clients and suppliers. We sat down with Holly to hear about what she’s learned, and what advice she has for women considering a career in construction. Taking the leap into construction So, Holly, did you always plan to work in construction? “Not at all! I had no prior experience in construction, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.” What made you say yes to construction? “I just went for it! My role is all about building relationships, creating awareness, and helping contractors and fit-out experts bring stunning spaces to life. Every day is different, and that’s what I love about it.” It sounds like you really found your place in the industry. “I really have! It’s fast-paced, exciting, and full of opportunities if you’re willing to jump in and learn.” Not everyone enters construction with a set plan, and that’s okay! Holly is proof that diving in and learning can lead to exciting opportunities. Advice for women considering construction A lot of women hesitate to enter the industry because they don’t have experience. What would you say to them? “Just go for it! Don’t let the fear of not having experience hold you back. Get stuck in and meet as many people as you can! The industry is welcoming and will expose you to incredible opportunities. “It’s a misconception that there’s no space for women in this industry. Women bring fresh perspectives, strategic thinking, and strong relationship-building skills, all qualities that drive success across all areas of the industry.” How do we encourage more women to join? That’s a great point! The industry is evolving, but how can we encourage more women to step in? “Representation is key. I think years of growth have seen more and more successful, courageous women set the path for others. My experience has been inclusive and supportive from everyone my path has crossed, and I would encourage women to join an industry that will make you feel empowered and equal.” Her enthusiasm for the industry is clear. Construction has changed a lot over the years, and Holly is proof of the opportunities that exist. Breaking barriers & making an impact It sounds like you’ve achieved so much in just a year! What are some moments you’re most proud of? “There have been so many! But a few stand out.” Getting Optima’s products specified with designers we hadn’t worked with before. Building strong relationships within the industry, which has led to new project wins and exciting opportunities. Executing successful networking events to strengthen industry connections and create new opportunities “Meeting as many people as possible has opened doors to new collaborations and career-defining moments. A lesson I’ve learned is building relationships is just as important as technical knowledge.” Celebrating Women in Construction As we wrap up our chat, Holly’s journey is a great reminder that there’s room for everyone in this industry. At Optima, we’re incredibly proud of our talented women who continue to shape the future of construction. Whether you’ve been in the industry for years or are just starting out, your contributions drive us forward. To all the incredible women at Optima and beyond, we celebrate you!
